FALLS CREEK
SUN VALLEY
Sun Valley is an
area 90% of Australian skiers can really enjoy themselves. Few
areas are as large and as open so average skiers can ski feeling
comfortable at their own rate. Sun Valley is a natural training
ground, each run from Panorama to Lakeside is steadily more
difficult.
With the addition of the Towers Chair Lift in 1999 skiing in the
Sun Valley area has never been better.

SUN VALLEY, A SECTION OF THE OFFICIAL FALLS CREEK TRAIL MAP
The Sun Valley starts at Panorama and spreads to Ruined Castle. For the clarity of this site I am discussing between Panorama and Lakeside. I have a separate page for the Ruined Castle area.

TOWERS CHAIR LIFT LOOKING BACK TO ROCKY VALLEY
Panorama is the first major run many skiers will do once they get their skiing legs, it is a very beautiful area with Rocky Valley Dam at the rear. Sun Valley as with most of Falls Creek has excellent snow making because of the Rocky Valley dam providing them heaps of water. Panorama is a nice wide run so don't worry when your instructor suggests it, now it has a trail to the Towers Chair Lift as well as its own Poma so returning to the top is easy.

JAMES (MY SON) AT THE TOP OF PANORAMA
The next runs are the Highway 83 and Main Street both are great in their own right, the bottom section is steeper but so wide you have heaps of room to traverse till you get more confident. Between these runs is a mini race course that the adults classes get to try out towards the end of their week of lessons.

LOOKING UP MAIN STREET FROM TOWERS LIFT BASE
Lakeside is more advanced again and after the narrow section in the middle drops away nicely, don't be fooled this section at the bottom can be tricky, its a run that ices up a lot and develops bumps when the snow is softer. Lakeside is a poma and it travels quite fast so if you are a boarder that is not to good on these practice on Panorama for a bit first, its a long walk across to Towers.
