FALLS CREEK SNOW REPORT

2008 Season

02 August 2008

Wow I got to go skiing at last, having been out of action due to a Hammy Injury it was fantastic to get on the ski's this weekend, the conditions were great and it was snowing well over the weekend so I had the wider ski's on and enjoyed the softer surface that was in general fresh but wet.

I did not get new photo's as the day was very damp and I do not like taking my camera out in those conditions but I can say the conditions of the snow were every bit as good as the snow photo's I have on this page.

ALL PHOTO'S WERE TAKEN 22-25/07/07

Towers from Highway 83

SUN VALLEY

Good cover on all runs with the snow well over 110cm deep now.  I was skiing on all of the sun valley runs on the weekend and found that it was deeper than I have seen in a number of years with many of the bigger rocks well under the surface now.

Drovers was in great condition and many early skiers were having a great time.  The areas between the runs like the Fox Trail are also in top condition, get out and ski.

SCOTT'S AND RUINED CASTLE

Scott's was great with the snow cover being nice and deep and skiing was very easy on a soft but fresh cover.  Ruined Castle had excellent cover and grooming had the smooth flowing surface we all love.  South Face was very fresh on Saturday with some real great fresh skiing on the edges near the terrain park.  Out the back of course where the old T Bar used to run there was stashes of fresh snow most never get to play in.

HOME TRAILS

All trails are well covered and well groomed with skiing back to town very easy top to bottom. The roads in town are well covered so if you like you can ski from the top of Eagles lift all the way back to the base of Falls Creek Express or the Gully Lift.  Makes for a very long run.

Wombats Ramble 24/06/07

MT McKAY

Could not see it due to white out.

TERRAIN PARK / ADVENTURE PARK

All open and all being well used.  Falls Creek has excellent parks and a fantastic reputation for going the extra mile to ensure these are in top shape.

My recommendation, if you want to play in the parks, wear a helmet, I have seen some terrible accidents in parks that a helmet would have prevented.

THE MAZE

Its nice to ski through the maze and have good deep snow under foot.  All the trails I did had good cover and the fresh snow made skiing challenging and interesting each run.  We did some great tree skiing over the weekend.

SUMMIT AREA

Fully covered and a great ski, some green sticking up through the snow on township, looks like some summer pruning is required there.  International was also well covered and providing some great bumps.

BEGINNERS SKIING

Heaps of beginners and all were having a great time, the snow over the weekend was welcome and it was cold yet the crowds were out there in good numbers.  I spoke to many beginners and early skiers and they were all having fun.  People like the magic carpets, they are a fantastic intro to skiing and again Drovers and Wombats were very popular.

Great skiing everyone in 2008 form ASB Alpine (Allan Young)
