ROCKY KNOLLS / DAMSITE
For as long as I
can remember while skiing at Falls Creek we have looked towards
Mt McKay and Rocky Knolls and wanted to ski there. On 5 January
2001 an application was lodged to develop the first two lifts in
this area adding 90% to the total skiing area at Falls Creek. In early
2003 following the full consultation process approval was granted to build these
lifts, all that now needs to occur is the Federal Government approving this
project.
The
Development Area
The picture below
shows the area where the Dam Site lift which originally was to be the Big
Dipper Twin T Bar will be installed. This is now going to be a Quad Chair the
same as is proposed for Rocky Knolls.
DAMSITE
LOCATION
The proposed ski field layout
is shown above. The Rocky Knolls lift is approximately 750m in
length. The Damsite lift is approximately 587m in length. The ski
field development represents an increase of 90% in ski able terrain for the Falls Creek Alpine Resort.
SAINT FALLS AT SLALOM PLAZA
For some time there have been
plans to develop the area around the Halley's lift in front of Snowland, In
2006/7 this will become a reality with the Saint Falls building stage
one commencing, Stages two and three will be constructed over the
following two summers.
this
area is aimed to be a one stop shop for the day skier enabling them to park
their car, walk in and get all their ticketing and ski hire needs then straight
out and on to the lift. It will also offer some excellent up market
accommodation
Saint Falls will become a
feature of Falls Creek unique in many ways.
CEDARWOOD
APARTMENTS
The rebirth of an
icon, built in the mid 70's Cedarwood was the place to be but over time it was
neglected and became a shadow of its former self. Six years ago new owners
started on the path of regaining the former position, summer of 2002/3 a ski hire and
sun deck were added and over the summer of 2003/04 the front of the building had
full balconies constructed with sliding doors replacing the
windows. In 2004/05 the rear of the building underwent a two
million dollar rebuild adding many quality apartments and in 2005/06 Falls
Creeks highest apartment the Penthouse was added. This summer we see the
final works completed with four new apartments built on the ground floor where
the bar and Restaurant used to be.
SNOWMAKING ON
WOMBATS
A long dream for many
will be finished in time for the 2007 ski season, snowmaking on Wombats
Ramble. This will greatly help maintain skiing back to the village
at the Slalom Plaza end as well as the Home Trail into the bowl.
